Psychology & Counselling

Psychology Services

Psychodiagnostic Assessment:
This kind of assessment, performed by a licensed psychologist, is used to help to identify areas to focus on in therapy and/or assist in providing a clinical diagnosis if indicated.  This can be requested by clients or by third parties including insurance companies that may need a diagnosis before moving forward with a claim or to better understand the nature of the issues presented.

The process typically involves a combination of psychometric testing (objective forms of testing such as questionnaires) and a clinical interview (face to face meeting with the psychologist trying to better understand your symptoms or current challenges).

Individual Psychological Therapy:
Individual therapy is provided when a client is looking for one-on-one assistance with their psychologist. There are a several reasons why a person might consider individual therapy which can range from personal development to suffering from severe depression. A variety of evidence-based therapy approaches can be used and is tailored to each individual needs and goals. At our clinic we provide individual therapy for the following and more:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Personal Growth
  • Trauma/Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
  • Relationship Problems
  • Stress Management
  • Work Issues

Couples Psychological Therapy:
Couples Therapy is provided for couples seeking guidance relating to their romantic relationship. Although it is possible each person has different goals, equal consideration is given to both parties within the therapy sessions. Reasons for consulting may include but are not limited to: wanting to improve communication within the relationship, feeling disconnected from your partner and learning to adjust after a significant life event (ex. after having a child).

At ReConnect Health Centre, psychology services are offered by Melanie Babineau Ross, M.A.Ps, L.Psych.

Counselling Services

What is the Difference Between Counselling Services and Psychology Services?

In New Brunswick, the practice of counselling therapy is regulated by the College of Licensed Counselling Therapists of New Brunswick (CCTNB). Counselling therapists provide services such as individual, couple, family, and group therapy, focusing on mental health and emotional well-being. They adhere to comprehensive standards of practice, ethical decision-making, ongoing professional development, and a licensing process to ensure the delivery of high-quality services.

Psychologists in New Brunswick are regulated by the College of Psychologists of New Brunswick (CPNB). They offer a range of services, including psychological assessments, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders. Psychologists are required to hold a doctoral degree in psychology accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association and must meet specific licensing requirements to practice in the province.

While both professions aim to support mental health, the key differences lie in their educational requirements and scope of practice. Counselling therapists focus on therapeutic interventions and support, whereas psychologists are trained to conduct assessments, diagnose mental health conditions, and provide treatment. These distinctions are outlined in the respective standards of practice and codes of conduct established by the CCTNB and CPNB.

At ReConnect Health Centre our Counsellor, Bethany Robertson, is a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC). This is a designation awarded by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. This title indicates that the individual has met specific educational and clinical experience criteria. Bethany is also a Licensed Counselling Therapist – Candidate (LCT-C). Licensed Counselling Therapist is a designation used primarily in New Brunswick.
