Lymphatic Therapy

Lymphatic Therapy (Complete Decongestive Therapy and Manual Drainage Technique (MDT) Lymphatic Massage)

Lymphatic therapy, also called Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT), is a proven treatment that helps reduce swelling in the body, also known as edema.

Edema happens when fluid builds up in your tissues and doesn’t drain properly through your lymphatic system—a part of your body that helps fight infection and remove waste.

Swelling can be caused by things like:

  • Eating too much salt
  • Sitting or lying down too long
  • Pregnancy
  • Your menstrual cycle
  • Some medications

It can also be a sign of more serious problems, like organ disease or damage to the lymphatic system.

When swelling becomes long-lasting and more serious, it’s called Lymphedema. This often happens after cancer treatments, especially for breast or pelvic cancers.

Complete Decongestive Therapy must be done by a highly trained and certified therapist. It includes:

  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD): A gentle type of massage
  • Compression therapy: Using special wraps or clothing
  • Exercise
  • Skin care

One popular type of lymphatic therapy is called Manual Drainage Technique (MDT). It’s a gentle massage that helps move fluid through your lymph system. This helps your body get rid of waste and supports your immune system.

During an MDT session, the therapist uses light pressure and slow, steady movements to help move the lymph fluid.

MDT can help:

  • Reduce swelling and puffiness
  • Support your immune system
  • Relieve pain or discomfort
  • Speed up healing after surgery or injury

Common reasons people get MDT:

  • Lymphedema
  • Swelling
  • Chronic pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Pregnancy swelling
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Weak immune system
  • Recovery after surgery or injury
